One name and two remarkable rescue stories – this is what connects the two crows named Vasily, who currently reside in an animal shelter in Dnipropetrovsk region. Their condition raised serious concerns, but the birds were saved. This was reported by "Vidomo" referencing "Suspilne Dnipro".
The first Vasily endured the horrors of military shelling in the Kharkiv region. According to Yana Rusina, co-founder of the shelter, his rescue was a result of chance and a small miracle. During an evacuation, volunteers, navigating through destroyed villages, heard an unusual, loud barking coming from a house where they knew there were no dogs. The sound was so convincing, so similar to a dog's bark, that they decided to investigate. Instead of a dog, they found a crow trapped in a cramped aviary. Apparently, the bird, observing the neighboring dogs, had learned to mimic their barking in hopes of attracting attention and receiving help.
The bird had spent several weeks alone, without food or water, under constant stress from the ongoing combat. By the time he was discovered, Vasily was on the brink of exhaustion—he was so weak that a little more time without assistance would have led to irreversible organ failure. The reason is simple: for birds, with their fast metabolism, starvation has catastrophic consequences.
Volunteers immediately transferred the crow to a shelter in Dnipropetrovsk, where a long but successful fight for his life began.
The second Vasily has an equally dramatic story. He was found on the side of the road in Dnipropetrovsk region, completely emaciated and exhausted. The details of his previous life are unknown, but it is clear that he endured equally harsh trials before arriving in the caring hands of people.
The reasons that led to his dire situation could be varied, but the outcome is equally horrifying.
In the shelter, both Vasilys received qualified veterinary care. They were fed specialized diets tailored to their physical condition and needs. The rehabilitation process took several months, requiring not only professionalism from the shelter staff but also unwavering patience and compassion.
