The United States has imposed sanctions on individuals and entities within the Russian banking sector as part of the commitments made by G7 leaders to restrict the aggressor country, Russia, from utilizing the international financial system to continue its war against Ukraine.
The U.S. Treasury has added Gazprombank Joint Stock Company to the sanctions list along with six of its foreign subsidiaries due to reports that Russian authorities are using "Gazprombank" to procure military equipment for the war in Ukraine. Additionally, this bank provides "combat bonuses" to Russian military personnel and compensation to the families of deceased occupiers.
Since April 2022, Ukraine has called for sanctions against "Gazprombank."
