"The processes of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement are being discussed not only in Ukraine but also in other countries around the world. I particularly liked the statement by Joseph Stiglitz, the American political analyst and economist, Nobel Prize laureate, who bluntly remarked that today the agreement does not add weight to the climate agenda and the fight for the environment. Instead, it inflates trade wars. This is a fact, and we understand it as well. The EU industry is caught in a bind, and politicians are trying to balance competition with such precautionary measures," the expert stated.
In her view, the business communities of EU countries, united on various platforms, including Ukraine, should emphasize the need for extending transition periods and ensuring additional funding. This is essential for protecting national industries and maintaining strong bargaining positions.
"In fact, the negotiations we are beginning now and will be actively pursuing are limited not only by the amount of funding that the EU can provide to Ukraine, including to compensate for the losses of our industry. But also regarding the timelines for implementing certain standards," Mikhaylovskaya declared.
