Ukrzaliznytsia seeks a 37% fare increase despite strong revenues, according to MP Honcharenko.

"Ukrzaliznytsia" is once again preparing for a substantial increase in freight transportation tariffs, despite the lack of necessity for such a move, stated Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of parliament from the "European Solidarity" party, on his Facebook page.
Народный депутат Гончаренко заявил, что "Укрзалізниця" стремится увеличить тарифы на 37%, несмотря на значительные доходы компании.

He emphasized that the additional funds from this increase by UZ will not materialize, as businesses will start to shut down.

"I was shown an internal document from the state monopoly. They plan to raise an extra 26 billion by increasing freight tariffs, which in one option would be raised by +37%," the MP wrote. "Of course, they won't collect any money because enterprises will simply start to halt operations. Not only due to enemy attacks but also because of UZ's tariffs."

He also reminded that since 2022, tariffs have already risen by 70%, which allows the company to still make a profit. However, this is only felt by the company's management.

"Today, there is no pressing need to increase tariffs, as profits are already being made from previous hikes. On the other hand, the railway raises transportation tariffs while salaries are only increasing for the top management of the company," noted Goncharenko.

The MP believes that the policy regarding state monopolies in Ukraine has completely failed.

"The placement of loyal individuals in leadership positions has led to the fact that inefficiency and corruption are shifted onto businesses through increased tariffs every six months. Could such ambitious plans for raising funds be related to the recent reshuffles in the transport sector and the railways?" Goncharenko concluded.
