A resident of the village of Luch in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Maria Aristarkhovna Zagai celebrated her 100th anniversary. This was reported by "Vidom" referencing a post from the Krynychansky territorial community on Facebook.

"Originally from the Poltava region, Maria survived the Holodomor and World War II, and during the wartime turmoil, she was sent to forced labor in Germany. The harsh conditions did not break her spirit or her lively nature – after her liberation in 1945, young Maria returned to Ukraine during the post-war reconstruction of cities and villages,” – the message states.

Thus, Maria Aristarkhovna found herself in Kamensky (then Dniprodzerzhynsk), where she met her future husband, Nikolai. Already a mother of three, the young family decided to settle in the village – they bought a house in Luch.

"As long as I can remember Maria Aristarkhovna – she is always in a hurry, a small, fragile, and very nimble woman. She inspires each of us here to live and work!” – shares Nikolai Litvinenko, the village elder of Luch.

Maria closely follows the situation in the country, watches the news daily, reads newspapers, and enjoys solving crosswords. To congratulate the centenarian at the home of her youngest son, many guests arrived, and the birthday girl joyfully received their congratulations and gifts. Maria did not reveal the secrets of her longevity, saying she never had time to think about it, and when asked, "When did you rest?" she jokingly replied, "I just leaned on the spade or the ladle, and that was my rest!"
