In Kryvyi Rih, wildlife photographer Viktor Sevidov spotted and captured an image of the largest and most respected bird from the crow family – the raven. He shared the photograph on his Facebook page, as reported by "Vidomo".

"Raven (Corvus corax)

At first glance, this bird may seem unremarkable, with its glossy black plumage resembling that of a common crow. Additionally, ravens can be found across almost the entire territory of Ukraine, so they usually don’t evoke much surprise. However, this bird possesses several distinctive features that set it apart from its feathered relatives.

The raven differs from the crow in that it has a larger beak and a long, wedge-shaped tail. A closer observation reveals that ravens also have shaggy feathers beneath their beaks. While flying, ravens primarily glide, whereas crows flap their wings more often and soar.

The raven is the largest of all birds that perch on branches. Watching this large bird settled on a limb, one might marvel at how it manages not to fall off. Each foot of a raven has a strong claw at the back, allowing it to grip the branch securely. The secret of its balance lies in a built-in locking mechanism: the muscles and tendons automatically tighten the raven's toes when it lands. Its powerful feet, designed for various functions, are also suitable for walking and scratching, enabling it to forage in different ways.

Naturalists believe that ravens exhibit some of the highest adaptability and inventiveness among birds, claiming that "its cunning is legendary." No matter the circumstances, the raven manages to adapt, particularly when it comes to finding food.
