Potatoes:

The poor harvest, with yields a third lower than last year, along with quality issues linked to the heat, are driving potato prices upwards.

Currently, potatoes are priced at around 25–26 UAH per kilogram, but this figure may rise even further. Although imported potatoes from Poland and Lithuania help stabilize prices temporarily, this relief will not last long.

Farmers are warning that frost is expected within the week, posing a threat to potatoes still in the ground. Some also report low-quality yields, which could create additional demand and lead to further price increases.

Borscht Vegetables:

Forecasts suggest that prices for the traditional borscht ingredients — potatoes, cabbage, carrots, and more — will rise by 30–35% by the end of the year. The extent of this increase will depend on the weather.

A harsh winter will lead to higher delivery costs and complicate imports. Even with mild weather, a significant price increase is inevitable, although potatoes are unlikely to reach 60 UAH per kilogram, given consumers' limited purchasing power.

Pasta and Grains:

Staple foods such as pasta, grains, and bread are also expected to become more expensive. This is due to two main reasons:

The increase in fuel taxes will drive up transportation costs, especially affecting cheaper goods.

A shift in consumer demand — many people will switch from meat and fish to more affordable products — will further push prices up.

Oil:

Oil prices are already rising, and this trend is likely to continue. Seasonal issues, tax increases, and periodic power outages create challenges for farmers and producers, leading to higher production costs. As winter approaches, electricity problems may worsen, further impacting prices.

Alcohol:

The recent adoption of bill No. 11416-d will increase the cost of alcoholic beverages by up to 50%, covering everything from wine to strong spirits. Prices for budget wines will rise by at least 50%, while mid-range products will follow a similar trajectory.
