The price of buckwheat has surged significantly by 5.4%, while millet has only increased by 0.2%. Forecasts for February 2025 predict even higher price hikes, primarily due to challenging economic conditions affecting the country.

Svetlana Cheremissina, a researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics, notes that in February, grain prices could rise by an additional 5-7%. According to the expert, this price increase is linked to several critical factors, including the complicated energy supply situation, rising fuel costs, and increased taxes.
Over the past two months, grain prices have already seen significant increases:
- Buckwheat has risen by 5.4%, with a price of 35.19 UAH per kilogram.
- Wheat groats – increased by 5.0%, reaching 20.18 UAH per kilogram.
- Barley groats have gone up by 4.7%, now priced at 19.90 UAH per kilogram.
- Semolina – has increased by 4.6%, currently costing 26.31 UAH per kilogram.
- Rice has risen by 0.8%, with a price of 56.11 UAH per kilogram.
- Millet – has grown by 0.2%, priced at 25.41 UAH per kilogram.

However, the increase does not stop here. Specifically, the rising cost of energy resources affects all sectors, increasing the production costs of grains. Technological processes that require substantial energy inputs significantly impact the final price. Additionally, the rise in fuel prices and increased taxes raise the transportation costs for both raw materials and finished products. Ultimately, this leads to higher prices for all familiar products on store shelves.
