A common root vegetable, which has long been an accessible product, is now becoming a luxury item.
According to analysts from EastFruit, the price of carrots has increased by another 10% over the past week, reaching 27-34 UAH per kilogram. The causes of this drastic rise are concerning. On one hand, demand for carrots remains consistently high among both wholesale buyers and retail chains. On the other hand, the market is facing a sharp shortage of quality products.
Experts warn that many farms are deliberately holding back their carrot stocks, anticipating further price increases. As a result, Ukrainians are experiencing a shortage of this vegetable, while prices continue to rise steadily.
Particularly alarming is the fact that compared to the same period last year, the price of carrots has increased 3.6 times. Such rapid price growth for basic products could have serious consequences for the family budgets of Ukrainians, forcing them to reconsider their usual eating habits.
Despite the current situation, analysts suggest that if the trend of rising prices continues, farmers may be forced to sell off their stocks. However, it is unclear how much this move will stabilize the situation, as further price increases remain quite likely.
